The bus taking us north of the river was crowded, so we had to stand. At this early stage: No problem!
Crossing Tower Bridge
We walked the final couple of hundred yards to the Aldgate Exchange*, Whitechapel.
Again, we found a smattering of early drinkers. Greg "Tug" Withnail put Metallica (Damage Inc) and Slayer (Angel of Death) on the jukebox (Sarah "Jalopy" McDonald was convinced that he had achieved this by plugging his iPod into it), which encouraged a trainee rocker to accost us with an account of his RATM Hajj.
James "Ironman" Llewellyn: "That place was rough."
Greg "Tug" Withnail: "Barmaid was dirty."
Kate "Mad Hatter" Llewellyn: "They offered me a kilo of sugar, which was sweet of them."
* Thought not actually on Whitechapel Road, the Aldgate Exchange is in the Whitechapel Area.
